Hi girls! As I already showed you in my blogpost from yesterday I have a new bag, the Chanel Grand Shopping Tote (GST). It’s going to replace my old bag, the Petite Shopping Tote (PST) but before it’s gone I compared both bags for you!
First, let me show you a close-up of both bags.
Petite Shopping Tote (PST): This bag is excellent if you want a classy bag that is not too heavy and can hold your most used products. This bag was sold for a while, then it got discontinued. If you are looking for this bag don’t worry, Chanel brought the PST back and it’s already spotted in many Chanel boutiques. Usually you see it in black but it’s also seen in white, red, beige, pink and many other colors, and also with different types of leather!
Grand Shopping Tote (GST): This bag is a real workhorse, it’s heavier than the PST but you have a lot of space and a compartment with a zipper for items that you don’t want to get stolen. It can even fit some laptops! Just like the PST this bag comes in the standard colors but was also released in many different colors. For fall 2014 this bag is available in blue, navy, khaki and burgundy. You can find it with gold or silver hardware, the seasonal colors usually come only with silver hardware.
Okay, let’s take a look at them both!
The size & price:
The PST is 25.5 x 24 x 9 cm or 10″ x 9.5″ x 3.5″ for 1500 euro.
The GST is 33 x 25.5 x 13.5 cm or 13″ x 10″ x 5.25″ for 1950 euro
(prices are from July 2014 in Europe)
The shape:
Both bags have that “boxy” look, with the PST it’s a little bit different because the side of the bag goes to the outside, while the GST has the shape where the side of the bag turns to the inside. Also the GST stays like this when you don’t have anything inside while the PST doesn’t holds it’s shape and looks a bit more flat. Both bags do tend to get a little bit saggy when the bags get older and the leather get’s less stiff, you can already see it in my pictures on the PST while the GST still is perfect, but keep in mind that it can also happen with the GST.
The back:
Both bags have a compartment at the back. Ofcourse the one from the GST is a lot bigger, but I don’t think it really matters because most people don’t use this compartment because you want it to stay tights against your bag. I only put my card for the public transport in here, but nothing else.
The inside:
The PST is one big open space that with a magnetic closure. Inside there are two compartments on the side of the bag that can hold a few items, one compartment is open and the other one has a small zipper. I have a large wallet and I can’t fit my wallet in one of the side compartments.
The GST has two open spaces, and one in the middle that closes with a zipper. The compartment with the zipper is big enough to hold my keys, iPad, wallet and I still have some room left. On both sides the GST has the same compartments as the PST, one with a zipper and one open compartment. These compartments are of course also a lot bigger than the one from the PST.
The strap:
The strap of both bags are the same length (this surprised me!).
What to choose?
If you can’t decide between both bags I would definitely recommend to
a) think about what you want to use your bag for
b) go to the store and try them both
If you go to the store you can see how the size of the bag looks on you and feel if it’s not too heavy. Also you can check the inside and I think it’s always better to choose if you have seen both bags on you and not just one. Think about what you want to do with your bag, if you carry a lot of stuff definitely go for the GST, if you want your bag to be light or you think the GST is too big for your frame than go for the PST.
I’m happy that I now have the GST and am going to sell my PST. When I’m going to work I usually carry more items and my PST was usually too small to fit everything, plus I was always worried that somebody would grab my wallet. When I want to go out and I don’t need that much items I rather use my Chanel double flap in medium because it’s so classy and it has a flap to protect my wallet and phone, so the PST just isn’t for me. Now I have my double flap if I go out, and my GST for work! Well… of course I still have many other bags, but that’s another story!
Hopefully this blogpost will help you a little bit more with deciding. Always choose what’s best for you and what makes you happy! If you want me to make a video review before the PST is gone let me know!
Love,
Demelza
