Hi loves! I know many people still find it hard to decide between Lambskin or Caviar leather when it comes to Chanel bags so I thought it would make some pictures to compare them both for you!
I’m going to use two Chanel medium/large classic flap bags, both have gold hardware. These bags are exactly the same except for the leather, one is lambskin and one is caviar.
Here are some facts:
Caviar Leather:
– Is really sturdy and durable
– Hardly shows scratches, only really deep ones.
– Looks a bit more casual
– Looks black in shade but a bit more black/greyish in the sun
Lambskin Leather:
– Looks and feels soft and smooth
– Is true black
– Is more fragile but small scratches you can rub off with your fingers, the oil of your skin will make the scratch disappear.
– Looks more luxurious
Both bags:
– Have the same price, Chanel doesn’t charge more for lambskin on the classic line bags.
– Are extremely beautiful
Both bags are so pretty and deciding between the two isn’t easy. If you’re looking for a bag that you can use a lot and you don’t have to worry about bumping it into something and having scratches on your bag than definitely go for caviar leather. You don’t have to worry about anything and this bag fit’s with every outfit.
If you want to look a bit more classy and luxurious and don’t use your bag every day go for lambskin leather, it’s extremely pretty and most scratches are easily removed when you rub your fingers over the leather, the oil from your skin removes the scratch. Although you do see scratches much faster on lambskin it isn’t as delicate as most people think.
If you store your bag right and take good care of it, it will stay pretty and puffy for years to come! When you’re bag is getting old and you think it need some treatment you can always bring it back to Chanel so they can do the spa treatment and make it brand new again 😀
What leather do you prefer?
Love,
Demelza

Can you please help me. I I can’t decide between the two. I purchased two of them (lamb n calf) and need to return one. Can you please tell me based on your experience does your the bag get scratches from wearing under the armpit when the straps pulled up? I’m leading towards the lambskin but worry about clothes rubbing on it n (leaving big noticeable scratches) since it will be right up against your side n clothes will have contact w it.
Please let me know. Any Infor will be helpful
Sorry, I never saw your message before! Color transfer depends on the lambskin bag color you get, if you get a light color you will see denim transfer on the bag. If you get a black bag it’s no problem at all. I don’t have problems with scratches on my bag but I’m careful with them, if you don’t like to baby your bag then go for calf or caviar!
Thanks for your article Demelza! I agree with your observations with the lambskin. I have a lambskin medium/large that was from the 80’s. I purchased it pre-loved, but still looks so pretty and structured. I have been planning to get myself a jumbo in caviar this year. But when I arrived at the boutique and was presented with both caviar and lambskin, I had second thoughts about the caviar and now leaning towards the lambskin. Hope to make up my mind soon 🙂
Such a hard decision! Defenitely check both colors also outside in the sunlight, I noticed my caviar becoming more dark grey than actual black. I wrote this post a while ago and I’m still happy to this day I kept my lambskin and skipped caviar 🙂
Lambskin is luxury and shouts CHANEL! Caviar is durable but does not have the luxury quality you are paying so much for! Bag spas can fix lambskin and restore any problen areas to as new again.
Hi I totally agree I have a lambskin classic flap in the jumbo size and it is Beautiful when I went to Chanel to purchase my bag I actually reserved the caviar one when they pulled it out my heart sank it looked like plastic so the sales assistant said would you like to see the lambskin as soon as He pulled it out I fell in love If I am paying that amount of money for a bag it has to be amazing and I haven’t regretted it since
